Born with a developmental disability, Gordon was institutionalized for most of his youth. His proudest achievement, other than marrying his wife Donna, was helping to close the very institution whose staff abused and mistreated him. This closure, along with all institutions in Ontario for people with developmental disabilities, is only the crowing glory of his life's work. He has also founded and led a People First branch in Brockville, Ontario and has been an active board member of the Brockville and District Association for Community Involvement. He is a home owner, a leader, and an avid music and sports cards collector. His life has been rich with dedicated family and friends who have benefited from his wisdom and kindness.
