The Book of Enoch the Prophet, also called 1 Enoch, is an ancient Jewish religious work, ascribed by tradition to Enoch, the great-grandfather of Noah. The book was not canonized by the Council of Nicaea, a group of Christian bishops appointed by Emperor Constantine in the Fourth century, despite Enoch being referred to as a historical person and prophet, and quoted in Jude 1:14–15; "And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him." Enoch is considered one of the greater men of faith because of what we observe in Hebrews 11:5; "By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God." In this book Enoch discusses the fall and imprisonment of the Watchers (the angels who fathered the Nephilim), astronomical observations and his visions, dreams and similitudes. * All Roman numerals have been replaced by English numbers. * All old citation formats have been replaced with newer, more typical citation formats.
